Chemical Composition: Mineral oil mixture containing silicone.
Appearance: Liquid.
Solvent: None.
Solid Content: Approximately 98%.
Application Areas:
Latex paints (including high-gloss latex paints)
Water-based industrial coatings
Water-based wood coatings
Emulsion-based adhesives
Printing inks
Clear topcoats
Performance Characteristics:
Superior Defoaming & Foam Suppression: The synergistic effect of mineral oil and silicone enables rapid foam breaking and long-lasting foam suppression. It effectively eliminates foam generated during coating production (e.g., pigment grinding, mixing) and application, avoiding defects like pinholes or craters in the final film.
Gloss & Transparency Preservation: A key advantage for high-gloss and clear systems—unlike some defoamers that dull surfaces or reduce clarity, BYK-037 does not compromise the glossiness or transparency of coatings. This makes it ideal for high-end applications such as water-based wood coatings and clear topcoats.
Excellent Stability: Demonstrates outstanding storage stability; no stratification, sedimentation, or loss of performance occurs under normal conditions. It also has strong resistance to UV-induced yellowing, ensuring the long-term color and appearance stability of coatings, even for exterior or light-exposed applications.
Color Compatibility: Does not affect the color acceptance or color development of tinted coating systems, maintaining the accuracy and consistency of the target color in finished products.
Recommended Dosage: 0.05%-0.5% of the total formulation weight. The exact dosage can be adjusted based on the foam intensity of the specific system (e.g., higher dosage may be needed for systems with severe foaming).
Usage Method: Can be added at any stage of production. For optimal foam control, staged addition is recommended: typically 2/3 added during the grinding stage (to suppress foam from pigment dispersion) and 1/3 added during the paint mixing stage (to prevent foam in the final coating formulation).
