1. Basic Information

  • Chinese Name: 嗪草酮 (Qín Cǎo Tóng)
  • Chinese Aliases: 立克除 (Lì Kè Chú), 塞克津 (Sài Kè Jīn), 必灭净 (Bì Miè Jìng), 甲草嗪 (Jiǎ Cǎo Qín), etc.
  • English Name: Metribuzin
  • CAS No.: 21087-64-9
  • Molecular Formula: C₈H₁₄N₄OS
  • Molecular Weight: 214.32

2. Physicochemical Properties

  • Appearance: The pure product is a colorless crystal or white powder; the technical grade product is a pale yellow to white powder.
  • Melting Point: 126.2℃
  • Density: 1.28g/cm³
  • Solubility: Its solubility in water is 1.05g/L (at 20℃). It is soluble in organic solvents such as dimethylformamide (DMF), cyclohexanone, chloroform, acetone, and methanol.

3. Mode of Action and Uses

  • Mode of Action: Metribuzin exerts herbicidal activity mainly by inhibiting the photosynthesis of susceptible plants. The active ingredient is absorbed by the roots of weeds and translocated upward with the transpiration stream; it can also be absorbed by leaves and undergo limited translocation within the plant.
  • Application Scope: It is widely applicable to crop fields such as soybeans, potatoes, tomatoes, sugarcane, asparagus, and pineapples. It effectively controls annual broad-leaved weeds and some annual gramineous weeds, including Polygonum spp., Amaranthus spp., Chenopodium album, mustard, Ixeris denticulata, and Stellaria media.

4. Toxicity

  • Acute Toxicity: The acute oral LD₅₀ of the technical product is 1100-2300 mg/kg for rats, 500-700 mg/kg for mice, and the acute dermal LD₅₀ is greater than 20000 mg/kg for rats and rabbits.
  • Chronic Toxicity: Within the test dose range, it has no teratogenic, mutagenic, or carcinogenic effects on animals. In a two-year feeding test, the no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) was 100 mg/kg for both dogs and rats.

5. Storage Conditions

It should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse, and kept separate from food raw materials during storage and transportation.

6. Packaging

It is usually packaged in 25kg cardboard drums.
