1. Basic Information

  1. Product Name: BYK-011 Defoamer
  2. Core Composition: Silicone-free polymer, containing no silicone or mineral oil. This composition fundamentally avoids surface defects (such as craters, fish eyes) that may be caused by silicone, while reducing the impact of mineral oil on the compatibility of some systems, making it suitable for application scenarios sensitive to silicone-based components.
  3. Appearance: Usually a transparent to slightly turbid liquid (subject to actual batches), with no obvious stratification or precipitation. It is easy to mix uniformly with water-based and radiation-curable systems without affecting the transparency of the system.
  4. Packaging Specification: 25 kg/blue iron drum. High-strength blue iron packaging is adopted, which has good sealing and corrosion resistance. It can prevent external impurities from mixing in during transportation and storage, while ensuring packaging stability and reducing leakage risks.
  5. Applicable Systems: Mainly designed for water-based systems (e.g., water-based coatings, water-based adhesives) and radiation-curable systems, especially tailored for two-component polyurethane systems (e.g., water-based two-component polyurethane coatings, adhesives). It is also compatible with clear coats and ultrafiltrate treatment scenarios.

2. Core Performance

  1. Efficient Defoaming and Foam Suppression Capacity: As a polymer-based defoamer, its molecular structure can quickly penetrate the surface of the foam film, destroy foam stability, and achieve rapid defoaming. At the same time, it can form a thin and stable protective film on the system surface, inhibiting the generation of new foam during subsequent stirring and mixing (e.g., during the addition of two-component polyurethane curing agent), and avoiding defects such as pinholes and craters in coatings caused by residual foam.
  2. Excellent Recoatability: Free of silicone components, it will not form a silicone residue layer on the substrate surface that is difficult to adhere to. During subsequent recoating, the new coating can bond closely with the bottom layer, without problems such as reduced adhesion or interlayer peeling, making it particularly suitable for coating processes that require multiple applications (e.g., furniture, equipment surface coating).
  3. Superior Compatibility: Highly compatible with water-based two-component polyurethane systems, clear coats, etc. After addition, it does not affect the viscosity, pH value, or curing speed of the system, nor does it cause turbidity or loss of gloss in the system. It can maintain the high transparency of clear coats and the smoothness of coatings.
  4. Adaptability to Targeted Scenarios: In ultrafiltrate treatment, it can effectively eliminate foam generated due to liquid turbulence and component mixing during filtration, preventing foam from affecting filtration efficiency or causing filtrate contamination, and ensuring the purity of the liquid after treatment.

3. Application Scenarios and Usage Methods

  1. Main Application Fields:

    • Coating Industry: Water-based two-component polyurethane coatings (e.g., wood coatings, industrial anti-corrosion coatings), water-based clear coats (e.g., furniture clear coats, automotive interior clear coats). It solves foam problems during production and construction and improves coating quality.
    • Adhesive Industry: Water-based two-component polyurethane adhesives. It prevents foam generation during curing agent mixing, which may lead to reduced bonding strength.
    • Chemical Processing: Defoaming of ultrafiltrates (e.g., ultrafiltrates in membrane separation processes), ensuring the stable operation of the filtration process.
  2. Typical Usage Methods:

    • Recommended Addition Amount: Usually 0.1%-0.5% of the total weight of the system. The specific amount can be adjusted according to the amount of foam generated and the type of system.
    • Addition Timing: It can be added in the middle and late stages of system production (e.g., paint mixing stage of coatings, mixing stage of adhesives), and stirred uniformly. Avoid adding too early to prevent the attenuation of defoaming effect.
    • Precautions: No dilution is required before use. If the system viscosity is high, it can be diluted with a small amount of system solvent (e.g., deionized water for water-based systems) before adding to ensure uniform dispersion.

4. Storage and Precautions

  1. Storage Conditions: It should be sealed and stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated indoor area, avoiding direct sunlight and high temperatures (recommended storage temperature: 5-35℃). At the same time, keep it away from strong oxidants and acidic substances to prevent component deterioration. For unused products, tightly close the drum lid in time to avoid the mixing of moisture or impurities.
  2. Shelf Life: Under the above storage conditions, the shelf life of unopened products is usually 12 months (subject to the production date and shelf life marked on the product packaging). It is recommended to use up opened products within 3 months.
  3. Safety Tips: This product is an industrial-grade additive. Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes. In case of accidental contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Do not ingest it. It is recommended to wear protective gloves and goggles during operation. Store it separately from food, medicine, etc., to prevent accidental use.
