Performance Characteristics

Tween 80 is a non-ionic surfactant and emulsifier with excellent emulsifying, dispersing, and wetting properties. With an HLB value of 15.0, it functions as an oil-in-water (O/W) emulsifier, effectively reducing the surface tension at oil-water interfaces to disperse oil droplets uniformly in aqueous systems. It exhibits strong hydrophilicity, making it ideal for stabilizing water-based formulations and enhancing the solubility of lipophilic ingredients.

Main Uses

  • Food Industry: Used as an emulsifier and dispersant in ice cream, bread, pastries, and candies. It prevents splattering in creamy foods, delays staling, improves texture, enhances gloss, and increases softness. Typical usage levels range from 0.1% to 0.5%.
  • Pharmaceutical Field: Serves as a solubilizer or emulsifier in injectables and oral liquids, a dispersant in capsules, and an emulsifier or base in ointments.
  • Cosmetics Industry: Acts as an emulsifier and solubilizer in skincare products and shampoos, facilitating uniform dispersion and dissolution of ingredients.
  • Other Fields: Applied as an antistatic agent and fiber lubricant in the textile industry; used as an emulsifier, stabilizer, lubricant, and softener in petroleum, chemicals, plastics, machinery, coatings, and leather industries; and functions as a gas chromatography stationary phase for separating alcohols, ketones, esters, fatty acids, and hydrocarbons.

Packaging and Storage

  • Packaging: Typically packed in 180kg plastic drums.
  • Storage: Avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat; store in a sealed container. Shelf life is generally 1 year under proper conditions. Non-toxic and non-flammable, it is transported as a non-hazardous material. Handle with care to prevent packaging damage.
