Pharmacological Action

Calcium can maintain the normal excitability of nerves and muscles, promote the secretion of acetylcholine at nerve endings, promote the calcification and formation of bones and teeth, and also promote muscle contraction and nerve transmission. In addition, it can reduce the permeability of capillaries and play an anti - allergic role. High - concentration calcium ions have a competitive antagonistic effect with magnesium ions, and calcium ions can also form insoluble calcium fluoride with fluorides, which can be used for the treatment of magnesium and fluoride poisoning.

Indications

  • Oral Preparations: Mainly used for the prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency diseases, such as osteoporosis, tetany, osteogenesis imperfecta, rickets, and can also be used for calcium supplementation in children, pregnant and lactating women, menopausal women and the elderly.
  • Injection Preparations: Used for the treatment of calcium deficiency, acute hypocalcemia, alkalosis and tetany caused by hypoparathyroidism, and can also be used for allergic diseases, the treatment of magnesium poisoning, the treatment of fluoride poisoning and the application in cardiac resuscitation.

Usage and Dosage

  • Calcium Gluconate Oral Solution: Oral, 10 - 20 ml at a time, 3 times a day.
  • Calcium Gluconate Tablets: Oral, 0.5 g - 2 g at a time, 3 times a day.
  • Calcium Gluconate Buccal Tablets: Buccal or chewable, 0.6 - 0.9 g at a time, 3 times a day.
  • Calcium Gluconate Injection: Slowly inject after diluting with 10% glucose injection, not more than 5 ml per minute. For adults with hypocalcemia, 1 g at a time, repeat if necessary; for hypermagnesemia, 1 - 2 g at a time; for the treatment of fluoride poisoning, inject 1 g intravenously, repeat after 1 hour. For children with hypocalcemia, slowly inject 25 mg/kg (6.8 mg calcium) intravenously.
