  • Uses
    • Cell Culture: It is a key component for maintaining the pH stability of the culture medium. It can buffer the acid - base changes caused by cell metabolism and provide a pH environment close to the physiological level for cells. For cell lines that are intolerant to high - concentration carbon dioxide environments, it can replace the traditional bicarbonate buffer system. It is commonly used at a concentration of 5 mM to 30 mM in cell culture.
    • Biochemical Experiments: Widely used in enzyme activity detection, protein purification, electrophoresis experiments, etc., which can improve the stability and repeatability of experiments.
    • Clinical Testing: As a buffer in clinical test diagnostic kits, it ensures the stability of reagents and the accuracy of test results.
  • Usage Method: The final usage concentration is generally 10 - 50 mmol/L, and 10 mmol/L is commonly used in cell culture. For example, to prepare a 10 mmol/L HEPES buffer, weigh 2.383 g of HEPES, add fresh triple - distilled water to a volume of 1 L, filter for sterilization, and store in aliquots at 4℃.
  • Precautions: If it is used as a buffer in cell culture medium, it is recommended to store the culture medium away from light. Because there are research reports that HEPES in the culture medium will produce hydrogen peroxide, which is toxic to cells, when exposed to visible light for more than 3 hours.
