Product Description

Product Name:TAPS

CAS No: 29915-38-6

Form: Powder

Product Application

1.Isoelectric Focusing (IEF):

A key component as a carrier ampholyte for establishing stable pH gradients in the pH 8-9 range, essential for protein isoelectric point determination.

2.Protein Biochemistry:

Used as a buffer in protein purification processes (e.g., ion-exchange, hydrophobic interaction chromatography), especially for proteins with alkaline isoelectric points.

Employed in protein crystallization screens; its hydroxymethyl groups can sometimes facilitate favorable intermolecular interactions for crystal growth.

Serves as a buffer for enzyme activity assays, particularly those with optimal activity in the pH 8.0-8.5 range.

3.Electrophoresis and Blotting:

Used in alkaline native gel electrophoresis to study protein native conformation and complexes.

Can serve as an alternative running buffer for DNA/RNA electrophoresis, especially when interferences from borate or Tris buffers need to be avoided.

4.Biophysical Chemistry Studies:

Its weak interaction with metal ions makes it useful for studying model systems of metalloproteins or metalloenzymes, or as a comparative buffer in control experiments.

5.General Alkaline pH Buffer:

An alternative to traditional Tris-HCl buffer in the pH 8.0-9.0 range, offering more stable buffering with lower temperature dependence and lower UV background.

Storage

Store the solid powder in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dry place, protected from light; it is stable at room temperature. Prepared buffer solutions should be stored at 2-8°C and used within weeks to prevent microbial growth.
