Product Description

Product Name:3-Morpholinopropanesulfonic acid

CAS No: 1132-61-2

Form: Powder

Product Application

1.Molecular Biology - Nucleic Acid Electrophoresis:

MOPS buffer is the standard for RNA electrophoresis (both denaturing and non-denaturing). It provides superior buffering capacity compared to traditional TBE/TAE, preventing RNA degradation during electrophoresis caused by local pH shifts. It is commonly used with formaldehyde (for denaturing gels) or SDS.

Used as the gel and running buffer for Northern blotting.

2.Cell Culture:

Used as a buffering system in certain serum-free media and insect cell culture media (e.g., for Sf-9, Sf-21 cells). It effectively maintains pH stability, serving as an alternative to the bicarbonate/CO₂ system, especially in open cultures or high-density fermentations.

3.Protein Research:

Serves as an equilibration and elution buffer in protein purification techniques such as ion-exchange and size-exclusion chromatography.

A component in screening conditions for protein crystallization.

Used as a buffer component in protein electrophoresis (e.g., Native-PAGE).

4.Biochemistry & Enzymology:

Provides a stable buffering environment for a wide range of enzymatic reactions (e.g., kinase assays, polymerase reactions) requiring near-physiological pH.

5.Plant Physiology:

Used in buffers for plant tissue culture and protoplast preparation due to its low cytotoxicity to plant cells.

6.General Laboratory Buffer:

An alternative to phosphate buffers (PBS) in experiments where phosphate interference must be avoided (e.g., phosphorylation studies, assays involving calcium or magnesium ions).

Storage

Store the solid powder in a cool, dry place in a tightly sealed container; it is stable at room temperature. Prepared solutions should be stored at 2-8°C, protected from light. Solutions may develop a slight yellow tint upon prolonged storage/light exposure but this usually does not affect most biochemical applications.
