Binder (Primary Function):

Its most common use. The cold-water-soluble fraction acts as an excellent dry binder​ in direct compression​ and as a binder in wet granulation.

Eliminates the need to cook a starch paste, simplifying the manufacturing process.

Typical use level:​ 5% - 15% w/w as a binder.
Disintegrant:

Functions as an effective disintegrant due to the swelling of the remaining intact starch granules upon water absorption.

Typical use level:​ 5% - 15% w/w.

Can be used intragranularly​ (as a binder/disintegrant) and extragranularly​ (as a disintegrant).

Filler/Diluent:

Provides bulk to low-dose formulations for direct compression.

Flow Aid:

Has better flow properties than native starch, making it suitable for high-speed tableting.
