Solubility: Easily soluble in water and alcohol, with strong hygroscopicity and deliquescence. It slowly oxidizes to orthophosphoric acid in the air.
Quality Standard:Generally, the content of phosphorous acid is ≥99.0%, and the contents of phosphate (PO₄), chloride (Cl), sulfate (SO₄), heavy metals (Pb), and iron (Fe) are usually required to be ≤0.1%, ≤0.005%, ≤0.0001%, ≤0.0002%, and ≤0.001% respectively.
Uses
As a Reducing Agent: It is a reducing agent second only to hypophosphorous acid. It is more stable than hypophosphorous acid and more convenient to use, and can be used for nylon whitening, etc.
In Fertilizer Production: Used to synthesize inorganic chemical fertilizers such as potassium phosphite and potassium dihydrogen phosphite, and these fertilizers have a certain bactericidal effect.
In Plastic - related Product Manufacturing: As a raw material for manufacturing plastic stabilizers and flame - retardants, it can also be used for the stabilization of polycarbonate.
In the Pesticide Field: It is an intermediate for the production of pesticides such as bactericides, insecticides, and glyphosate.
Other Applications: It can also be used in the synthetic fiber industry, as a chemical reagent, or in the fields of water treatment agents and pharmaceuticals.
Production Method:The main production method is the hydrolysis of phosphorus trichloride. That is, phosphorus trichloride is slowly dropped into water for hydrolysis reaction, generating phosphorous acid. After purification, cooling crystallization, and decolorization, the phosphorous acid finished product is obtained. The reaction equation is PCl₃ + 3H₂O → H₃PO₃ + 3HCl.
Packaging and Storage
Packaging: Usually packed in 25 - kg plastic - woven bags lined with two - layer ethylene film. There are also 500 - kg and 1000 - kg large - round plastic - woven bags, or 300 - kg plastic drums.
Storage Conditions: Should be stored in a cool, ventilated, and dry warehouse. The packaging should be sealed to prevent moisture. It should not be stored and transported together with alkaline substances, toxic substances, and other corrosive substances.
Safety Information
Hazard Category: It belongs to the second - class inorganic acidic corrosive substances, with a dangerous regulation number of 93014 and a UN number of 2834.
Health Hazards: It is irritating to the respiratory tract. Eye contact can cause burns and permanent damage, and skin contact can cause severe burns.
Environmental Hazards: It is harmful to the environment and can cause pollution to water bodies.
