Composition: It is a mixture of cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol, containing not less than 40.0% stearyl alcohol (C₁₈H₃₈O), and the sum of cetyl alcohol (C₁₆H₃₄O) and stearyl alcohol (C₁₈H₃₈O) is not less than 90.0%.
Physical and Chemical Properties
Appearance: White powder, particles, flakes or lumps, with an oily smell, and it becomes a transparent oily liquid after melting.
Melting Point: 47 - 55℃
Solubility: Insoluble in water, easily soluble in ethanol.
Acid Value: ≤0.3 mg KOH/g
Saponification Value: ≤1.0 mg KOH/g
Hydroxyl Value: 205 - 230 mg KOH/g
Product Characteristics
It has good emulsifying, thickening and emollient properties. It can give products a delicate and smooth texture, enhance the stability of emulsions, and reduce the amount of surfactants required to form a stable system.
Application Fields
Cosmetics Field: Widely used in creams, lotions, hair conditioners and other products, as an emulsifying stabilizer, opacifier, emollient, cleanser, viscosity regulator, etc.
Pharmaceutical Field: It can be used as a pharmaceutical excipient, directly used in water - in - oil emulsifier pastes, ointment bases, etc., which can improve the stability, solubility and processing performance of pharmaceutical preparations.
Safety
The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has evaluated that the ingredient is safe for use in cosmetics when the concentration is not higher than 15% (for rinse - off and leave - on products).
Packaging and Storage
Usually packed in bags or barrels. It should be stored in a cool and dry place. For example, the powder - like product can be stored for 3 years at - 20℃ and for 2 years at 4℃.
