Pharmaceuticals & Personal Care (Core Application):

Antifungal/Antimicrobial Agent:​ Its zinc salt​ and other salts​ are classic topical antifungal drugs​ used to treat skin fungal infections like athlete's foot, ringworm, and tinea capitis. Also used in formulating antidandruff shampoos, medicated soaps, and talcum powder. Its monoglyceride​ is also an effective antimicrobial agent.

Pharmaceutical Intermediate:​ A key precursor for synthesizing musks​ (e.g., musk ketone), prostaglandins, certain antibiotics, and antiviral drugs.

 

Fragrance Industry:

Key Intermediate for Synthetic Fragrances:​ The core starting material​ for synthesizing macrocyclic musks​ (e.g., Musk T, Musk D) and fruity ester fragrances​ like γ-undecalactone​ (peach aldehyde).
