Product Application
Initiators & Polymer Industry (Core Application):
Free-Radical Initiators: Its peroxides (e.g., tert-butyl perpivalate) and peroxyesters are important medium-temperature (~100°C) free-radical polymerization initiators. Widely used in the synthesis of acrylic resins, unsaturated polyesters, styrenic polymers (e.g., ABS, PS), and in the high-pressure polymerization of polyethylene (LDPE). They decompose smoothly, offering moderate activity and good safety.
Polymer Modifier/Chain Transfer Agent: Its derivatives can be used as chain transfer agents to control molecular weight.
Pharmaceutical Industry:
Prodrugs/Protecting Groups: Leveraging its high steric bulk and slow enzymatic hydrolysis in vivo, hydroxyl or amino groups in drug molecules are often converted to pivalate esters or pivalamides to serve as prodrugs. This improves solubility, stability, oral bioavailability, or targeting of the parent drug (e.g., certain antibiotics, steroid hormones, antivirals).
Side Chain/Intermediate: A key intermediate or side chain in synthesizing specific drugs like penicillin derivatives and corticosteroids.
Agrochemical Industry:
Intermediate/Building Block: An important intermediate for synthesizing various high-efficacy, low-toxicity pesticides, including pyrethroid insecticides, sulfonylurea herbicides, and triazole fungicides. The tert-butyl moiety effectively modulates lipophilicity and spatial conformation, impacting biological activity.
Fragrance Industry:
Fixative/Synthetic Fragrance: Its esters (e.g., geranyl pivalate, ethyl pivalate) have fruity or floral notes and are used as fragrance components and fixatives, enhancing the stability and longevity of perfumes.
Coatings & Adhesives:
Modifying Monomer: Used to synthesize reactive monomers like glycidyl pivalate, which modify epoxy or acrylic resins, significantly improving coating properties such as weatherability, hydrophobicity, flexibility, and adhesion.
Other Uses:
Metal Extractant: Derivatives are used in hydrometallurgy for metal ion separation.
Lubricant Additive: A component in synthetic ester-based lubricants.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place. Storage temperature should not exceed 30°C.Keep container tightly closed. Away from ignition sources, heat, strong oxidizers, bases, and reducing agents. As the melting point is near room temperature, use corrosion-resistant, sealed containers (e.g., stainless steel, lined containers) for storage, especially in warm climates.
