Product Application

5.1 Natural Gas & Petrochemical Processing (Primary Market)

Natural Gas Dehydration:​ This is the largest application for TEG. Due to its strong hygroscopicity, TEG is used in "Glycol Dehydration Units" (GDUs) to remove water vapor from natural gas, preventing pipeline hydrate formation and corrosion.

Aromatic Extraction:​ Used as a solvent in extractive distillation processes to separate high-purity aromatics (Benzene, Toluene, Xylenes) from reformate or pyrolysis gasoline.

5.2 Industrial Solvents & Cleaning

Industrial Cleaners:​ Effective for degreasing metal surfaces, cleaning Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), and removing rosin flux residues due to its solvency and non-flammability.

Coatings & Inks:​ Acts as a solvent and viscosity modifier for nitrocellulose lacquers, epoxy paints, and printing inks.

Adhesives:​ Incorporated into polyurethane adhesive formulations to adjust curing speed and flexibility.

5.3 Polymers & Plastics

Polyester Synthesis:​ Serves as a comonomer with PTA/DMT to produce modified polyesters (e.g., PETG, PCTG), which are used for high-performance transparent bottles, sheets, and films.

Polyurethanes:​ Used as a chain extender or low-molecular-weight soft segment in the production of PU elastomers and flexible foams to enhance hydrolytic stability and flexibility.

5.4 Other Specialty Applications

Brake Fluids:​ A key component in DOT 3, DOT 4, and DOT 5.1 hydraulic brake fluids due to its high boiling point and low compressibility (requires strict dehydration).

Surfactant Production:​ Raw material for synthesizing ethoxylated alcohols and fatty acid esters (non-ionic surfactants).
