Nylon (Polyamide) Industry​ (Largest use, >70% of consumption):

Precursor to Adipic Acid/Caprolactam: Cyclohexanol is catalytically oxidized to cyclohexanone, which is the core intermediate for producing adipic acid​ (for Nylon 66 salt) and caprolactam​ (for Nylon 6). Nylon 66 and Nylon 6 are essential synthetic fibers and engineering plastics.

Solvent:

Used as a solvent and thinner for paints, coatings, varnishes, and resins (e.g., nitrocellulose, natural resins) due to its moderate evaporation rate and good leveling properties.

Used as a saponification agent and leveling agent in textile and leather industries.

Chemical Intermediate:

Production of unsaturated polyester resins, plasticizers (e.g., dicyclohexyl phthalate), stabilizers, and curing agents.
