Product Description

Product NameDiethylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether

CAS No: 111-77-3

Form: liquid

Product Application

Specialty Coatings & Inks:

Used as a medium-high boiling point solvent in some solvent-borne coatings to regulate drying and improve flow/leveling.

Can function as a coalescent or co-solvent in water-borne coatings, but is being rapidly replaced in this field by less toxic alternatives (e.g., butyl or propylene glycol ethers) due to its higher toxicity.

Used in some specialty printing inks.

Cleaners & Strippers:

A component in strong paint strippers, degreasers, and hard-surface cleaners, effective at dissolving resins and greases. Its high water solubility aids in rinsing.

Chemical Synthesis & Industrial Processing:

Serves as an important chemical intermediate and reaction solvent for synthesizing other chemicals (e.g., esters).

Used as a dye solvent and leveling agent in the textile industry.

Historically used in the electronics industry for photoresist developers and cleaning agents in semiconductor manufacturing, but has been largely replaced by safer solvents.

Brake Fluids:

A base fluid component in some glycol-ether-based brake fluids.

Other Historical Uses:

Was formerly used in a wide range of industrial and consumer formulations, but its application has drastically diminished due to its established health risks.
