1. Chemical and Physical Properties
- Chemical Type: It belongs to the category of modified fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ethers, non-ionic surfactants specifically designed as high-efficiency emulsifying and wetting agents for pesticide microemulsions (ME) and emulsifiable water suspensions (EW).
- Appearance and Physicochemical Indicators: It appears as a pale yellow to yellow transparent liquid with a density of approximately 0.98~1.08 g/cm³ (at 20℃). The pH value (1% aqueous solution) ranges from 5.5 to 7.5. It is miscible with most organic solvents (e.g., xylene, mineral oil) and water in any proportion.
2. Mechanism of Action
- Synergistic Emulsification and Wetting: The polyoxyethylene ether segments in the molecule are compatible with the aqueous phase, while the fatty alcohol segments are compatible with the oil phase. By reducing the oil-water and solid-liquid interfacial tensions, pesticide technical materials can be rapidly emulsified and wetted in the oil-water system to form a stable microemulsion or water-emulsion system.
- System Stability Construction: Through steric hindrance effects, a protective film is formed on the surface of emulsified particles to prevent particle aggregation, maintaining the formulation from stratification or emulsion breaking during storage and transportation.
3. Key Application Technical Points
- Addition Amount: Generally, it accounts for 6%~12% of the pesticide formulation mass (the specific amount needs to be adjusted according to the characteristics of the technical material). For example, in abamectin 5% ME, the addition amount is approximately 8%.
- Addition Method: During the emulsification and mixing stage of microemulsions/emulsifiable water suspensions, it is uniformly mixed with technical materials, solvents, water and other components to ensure uniform distribution in the formulation.
- Compatibility: It can be used synergistically with most anionic emulsifiers (e.g., alkylbenzenesulfonates) and non-ionic dispersants. Long-term contact with strongly acidic or strongly alkaline adjuvants should be avoided.
4. Performance Advantages and Market Value
- High-Efficiency Emulsification and Wetting: In ME/EW formulations of hard-to-emulsify technical materials such as abamectin and emamectin benzoate, after adding TERWET 3780, the emulsification time can be controlled within 5 minutes, and the emulsion stability (30 days of normal temperature storage) is ≥99%. This is better than traditional emulsifying and wetting agents (which usually have an emulsification time of 10~15 minutes and an emulsion stability of ≤95%).
- Outstanding Cost-Effectiveness: Compared with imported similar adjuvants (such as a certain brand's Atlox series), it has a 12%~20% lower procurement cost. Meanwhile, its high emulsification efficiency can reduce solvent usage by 5%~10%, effectively reducing the formulation cost of pesticide preparation enterprises.
- Excellent Storage Stability: After 14 days of high-temperature storage at 54℃, the emulsification performance attenuation of formulations containing TERWET 3780 is ≤4%, which can meet the long-term storage and transportation requirements of major global agricultural markets.
