  • Physical and Chemical Properties
    • Appearance: Colorless oily liquid with a slight ketone - like odor.
    • Density: 1.12g/cm³
    • Melting Point: -44℃
    • Boiling Point: 206℃
    • Flash Point: 99.2℃ (open - cup)
    • Saturated Vapor Pressure: 2.0kPa (20℃)
    • Critical Temperature: 457.8℃
    • Critical Pressure: 5.13MPa
    • Upper Explosive Limit: 16% (V/V)
    • Lower Explosive Limit: 1.4% (V/V)
    • Refractive Index: 1.4348 (25℃)
    • Solubility: Miscible with water, and soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, ether and benzene.
    • Chemical Properties: Stable in neutral medium, easily undergoing reversible hydrolysis in hot alkali. When the pH returns to neutral, the lactone is formed again. Hydrolysis is slower in acidic medium.
  • Uses
    • Solvent: Due to its high boiling point, strong solubility, good electrical properties and stability, it is widely used as an organic solvent, extractant and absorbent. It can also be used as a battery electrolyte to replace strongly corrosive acid solutions.
    • Other Fields: It is also used in pesticides, herbicides, plant growth regulators, rubber additives and other aspects.
Pharmaceutical Field: It is the starting material for many pharmaceutical products, and can be used to synthesize pyrrolidone - series products. It is also an intermediate for synthesizing ciprofloxacin, interferon, vitamins, etc.
  • Preparation Methods
    • 1,4 - Butanediol Dehydrogenation Method: γ-Butyrolactone is prepared by the dehydrogenation of 1,4 - butanediol in the presence of a copper catalyst.
    • Maleic Anhydride Hydrogenation Method: Using maleic anhydride as the raw material, γ-Butyrolactone is obtained through a hydrogenation reaction.
    • Other Methods: Including furfural method, Reppe method, acetoxylation method, etc.
  • Packaging and Storage
    • Packaging: Usually packed in 200L painted barrels or 1000kg IBC barrels. There are also 200kg/barrel packaging specifications, and ISO tank packaging can also be used according to requirements.
    • Storage: Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse, away from fire sources and heat sources. It should be stored separately from oxidants, acids, alkalis and food - grade chemicals, and mixing storage is strictly prohibited.
