1. Basic Information

  • Brand & Model: CLAYTONE APA
  • Core Ingredient: Modified montmorillonite (bentonite), which undergoes special modification treatment to optimize its performance in various systems
  • Appearance & Character: Usually white or off-white powdery substance with fine texture
  • Packaging Specification: Common specification is 12.5 kg/bag; customized packaging is also available according to customer needs
  • Physical Parameters:
    • Density: Approximately 1.7 - 1.9 g/cm³
    • Particle Size: Processed finely with uniform particle size distribution to ensure full dispersion in the system
    • pH Value: Neutral to weakly alkaline in aqueous solution, usually ranging from 7 to 9

2. Product Characteristics

  • Efficient Rheological Control: As a thixotropic rheological agent, it can form a unique three-dimensional network structure in the system. Under low shear force, the network structure provides high viscosity, effectively preventing filler sedimentation and sagging; under high shear force (e.g., during construction), the network structure is destroyed, and the system viscosity decreases to achieve good fluidity; after the shear force is eliminated, the network structure is quickly restored, ensuring construction effect and system stability.
  • Wide System Applicability: Designed specifically for aromatic and polar systems, it can provide reliable and repeatable rheological properties in solvent-based paints (such as alkyd resin systems and acrylic resin systems), colorants, varnishes, primers and other products. In highly polar systems, it can play an effective role without high-energy ball milling, greatly reducing processing difficulty and cost.
  • No Need for Polar Activators: Different from other similar products, CLAYTONE APA does not require additional addition of polar activators, which simplifies the production process, reduces the types of additives used, lowers the risk of adverse reactions that may occur during production, and also helps control costs.
  • Good Dispersibility: Relying on its special modification process, it can disperse quickly and uniformly in the system, fully integrating with resins, solvents and other components without agglomeration or caking, ensuring the uniformity of product performance.

3. Application Fields

  • Coating Industry:
    • Solvent-based Paints: In solvent-based coatings such as automotive paints and industrial anti-corrosion paints, it can effectively control the rheology of the coating, prevent sagging and dripping during construction, and at the same time ensure that pigments and fillers do not settle during storage, guaranteeing the uniformity and decorativeness of the coating film.
    • Varnishes & Primers: When used in varnishes, it can improve the fullness and leveling of the paint film; in primers, it helps enhance adhesion to the substrate, prevents the primer from flowing during construction, and ensures uniform thickness of the primer coating.
  • Ink Industry: In solvent-based inks, CLAYTONE APA can adjust the viscosity and thixotropy of the ink, enabling uniform transfer of the ink during printing, avoiding problems such as ink flying and plate pasting, and improving the quality and clarity of printed products.
  • Adhesive Industry: For polar adhesive systems (such as epoxy resin adhesives and polyurethane adhesives), it can enhance the thixotropy of the adhesive, making it less likely to flow during application and facilitating construction operations. At the same time, it improves the wettability and adhesion of the adhesive to surfaces of different materials.

4. Usage Method & Recommended Dosage

  • Recommended Dosage: Based on the total formula, the dosage generally ranges from 0.5% to 3%. The specific dosage needs to be accurately adjusted through tests according to factors such as the polarity of the system, resin type, solvent type and the required rheological performance.
  • Addition Method:
    • Pre-dispersion Method: Mix CLAYTONE APA with an appropriate amount of solvent in advance, stir evenly to make a pre-dispersed slurry, and then add it to the main system. This method helps improve its dispersion effect in the system.
    • Direct Addition Method: Under stirring, slowly and evenly add CLAYTONE APA to the system, and continue stirring until it is completely dispersed. To ensure sufficient dispersion, the stirring time can be appropriately extended or high-speed stirring can be adopted.

5. Storage & Safety

  • Storage Conditions: Should be stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. The recommended storage temperature is 5 - 35℃, and the relative humidity should not exceed 70%. Under proper storage conditions, the shelf life of the product is usually 24 months.
  • Safety Precautions: During use, it is recommended that operators wear protective gloves, masks and goggles to avoid inhaling dust or contacting the skin and eyes. In case of accidental contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention in time. The product itself is non-corrosive, but it should be avoided to be stored and transported together with strong oxidants, strong acids and other substances.
