Packaging Specification: Common specification is 25 kg/drum
Physical State: It appears as a pale yellow liquid with no obvious odor. Its initial boiling point is 203.00℃, flash point is 95℃, vapor pressure is < 1.0000000 hPa (at 20.00℃), density is 1.1200 g/cm³ (at 20.00℃), auto-ignition temperature is > 200℃, upper explosive limit is 9.50% (V), lower explosive limit is 1.30% (V). It is completely miscible with water, and the content of active ingredients is 52%.
Product Characteristics
Excellent Rheological Performance: After being added to water-based coatings or systems, it can form a three-dimensional network structure and generate thixotropic flow performance. It has excellent shear-thinning performance: it forms a network under low shear force to prevent sedimentation; the network is destroyed under high shear rate for easy construction operation; and the network can be reconstructed after the shear is removed to prevent sagging.
Easy to Use: As a liquid additive, no pH adjustment or temperature control is required during addition. It can also be added later for post-viscosity adjustment, facilitating flexible adjustment in the production process.
Minimal Impact on the System: Compared with some other common rheology additives (such as natural and synthetic silicates, acrylic and polyurethane thickeners, or fumed silica), it has little impact on the water resistance of the coating film. When used in pigment concentrates and then added to coatings, it will not affect the viscosity of the coatings.
Good Versatility: It has good versatility and high efficiency in water-based systems and pigment concentrates, and is compatible with a variety of water-based coatings and related systems.
Application Fields
Water-based Pigment Pastes: It can effectively prevent pigment sedimentation and ensure the stability and uniformity of pigment pastes.
Water-based Pigment/Filler Pastes: It improves the anti-settling and anti-sagging performance of the system, making the pigments and fillers more evenly distributed in the system.
Matting Pastes: Used for anti-settling of matting pastes, helping to improve the application effect and stability of matting pastes.
Water-based Grinding and Polishing Fluids: It can generate thixotropic rheological behavior in them, enabling the suspended anti-settling effect of solid particles and other components in the system, keeping the system homogeneous and stable, and preventing sedimentation, stratification and water separation.
Recommended Dosage
Anti-settling: Based on the total formula, the dosage ranges from 0.3% to 1.5%.
Anti-sagging: Based on the total formula, the dosage ranges from 0.3% to 3%. The actual optimal dosage needs to be determined through a series of experiments, combined with the specific application system and requirements.
Addition Method
Addition in the Grinding Stage: Adding it during the grinding stage ensures full mixing and dispersion of the additive with the system, achieving the best dispersion effect and thus obtaining the best reproducibility of construction performance.
Addition in the Paint Mixing Stage: It can also be added during the paint mixing stage to adjust the viscosity of the coating. If uneven dispersion occurs when added later, co-solvents (such as propylene glycol monomethyl ether or ethylene glycol butyl ether) can be added to improve the compatibility between the additive and the system.
Storage and Transportation
Storage Conditions: It is sensitive to moisture. Slight turbidity during storage generally does not affect the rheological effect.
Packaging Requirements: Since the additive contains chloride ions, it is recommended to use plastic or internally coated packaging barrels to store the finished paint to avoid corrosion. If metal barrels are used, corrosion testing is required first. However, no negative impact of this additive on corrosion has been found in the dry film.
Matching Suggestions: It is recommended to use it together with BYK-410 in medium-polarity systems and with BYK-411 in low-polarity systems.
Shelf Life: Under room temperature and sealed packaging, the shelf life is usually 24 months.
