1. Basic Information

  • Brand and Model: BYK-361N, a professional polyacrylate-based leveling agent developed by BYK (Germany), widely applicable to coatings, printing inks, and room-temperature curing plastic systems.
  • Packaging Specification: 25 kg/blue iron drum, suitable for small and medium-batch production and procurement needs. The packaging has strong sealing performance, which can reduce additive loss during transportation and storage.
  • Core Component: High-purity polyacrylate, achieving synergistic optimization of leveling and anti-crater functions through precise molecular structure design.

2. Core Performance

  1. Dual Effects of Efficient Leveling and Anti-Crater:

    • Significantly improves the long-wave leveling effect of coatings, eliminates defects such as orange peel and brush marks caused by uneven substrate surfaces or construction processes, and makes the coating surface smoother;
    • Precisely inhibits the formation of craters, especially suitable for solving crater problems caused by substrate oil stains and additive incompatibility in solvent-based/solvent-free coatings, ensuring the integrity of the coating appearance.
  2. Low Impact on Surface Tension, Balancing Interlayer Performance:

    • Only slightly reduces the system's surface tension (not lower than 30 mN/m), avoiding recoating difficulties caused by excessive tension reduction of traditional leveling agents;
    • Does not affect interlayer adhesion (such as the bonding force between primer and topcoat, clear coat and colored paint), suitable for multi-layer coating scenarios (such as automotive refinish paints, furniture multi-layer coatings).
  3. System Compatibility and Appearance Protection:

    • Highly compatible with solvent-based acrylic resins, alkyd resins, epoxy resins, and printing ink systems, without causing clouding in clear coats or bleeding in colored paints (e.g., the orientation of aluminum powder pigments in metallic paints is not disturbed);
    • Can improve coating gloss (60° gloss meter test can increase by 5%-10%), especially suitable for high-gloss coatings and inks.

3. Application Fields

  • Coatings Field:

    • Industrial Coatings: Original automotive paints, engineering machinery anti-corrosion paints, improving leveling during thick coating, reducing pinholes and craters, and enhancing coating weather resistance and appearance texture;
    • Wood Coatings: Solvent-based PU clear coats, nitrocellulose (NC) paints, eliminating paint accumulation and brush marks on wood textures, enhancing paint gloss and feel;
    • Solvent-free Coatings: Epoxy floor paints, polyurethane anti-corrosion coatings, promoting leveling in high-viscosity systems and avoiding surface defects after curing.
  • Printing Inks Field:

    • Packaging Printing Inks: Plastic film gravure inks, paper flexographic inks, solving the problem of uneven spreading of inks on non-polar substrates (such as PE, PP films), and improving pattern clarity and color saturation;
    • Special Inks: Metal foil printing inks, glass inks, enhancing ink wettability on special substrates and ensuring a smooth and flawless printed layer.
  • Room-temperature Curing Plastic Systems:
    Surface coatings of unsaturated polyester resins (such as artificial stones, FRP products) and epoxy resins (such as electronic component encapsulants), which stably exert leveling effects during room-temperature curing and avoid the formation of bubbles and craters.

4. Usage Guide

  • Recommended Dosage:
    0.1%-1.0% based on the total formula mass. 0.3%-0.8% is recommended for conventional coatings/inks; 0.5%-1.0% can be appropriately increased for high-gloss systems or solvent-free systems. It is recommended to determine the optimal dosage through gradient tests (such as 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.8%) to balance leveling effect and cost.

  • Adding Method:
    It can be added during the grinding stage or paint (ink) mixing stage of coatings/inks. Add directly and stir for 15-20 minutes until uniformly dispersed; if the system viscosity is high, it can be diluted 10-20 times with formula-compatible solvents (such as xylene, butyl acetate) before adding to avoid local agglomeration.

  • Compatibility Tips:
    Compatible with most solvent-based resins, pigments, and additives (such as defoamers, dispersants). Avoid mixing with strongly cationic surfactants (such as quaternary ammonium salts) to prevent system demulsification or performance failure.

5. Storage and Safety

  • Storage Conditions:
    Store in a sealed container in a cool and dry environment at 5-35°C, avoiding direct sunlight and high temperatures; shelf life is 12 months. If slight turbidity occurs in a low-temperature environment, heat to 25°C and stir thoroughly, the performance will not be affected and can be used normally.

  • Environmental Protection and Safety:
    Free of APEO (alkylphenol ethoxylates), VOC (volatile organic compounds) content complies with EU REACH regulations and domestic standards such as GB 18581-2020 "Limits of Harmful Substances in Wood Coatings", suitable for environmentally friendly coating and ink formulations; it is recommended to wear protective gloves during operation to avoid direct contact with skin and eyes.
