Brand and Model: BYK-354, a polyacrylate-based surface additive from BYK (Germany), suitable for solvent-based, solvent-free coatings, and UV-curing systems.
Packaging Specification: 25 kg/blue iron drum, meeting the needs of small and medium batch purchases.
Core Component: Polyacrylate solution, a standard additive with both leveling and defoaming functions.
2. Core Performance
Synergistic Dual Functions:
Efficient Leveling: Reduces the surface tension (to 28 - 32 mN/m) in solvent-based/solvent-free coatings, eliminates defects such as craters and fisheyes, and ensures a uniform and smooth coating. It is especially suitable for metallic paints and clear coat systems without affecting aluminum flake orientation and clear coat transparency.
Auxiliary Defoaming: Accelerates the escape of tiny bubbles in coatings, reduces surface defects such as pinholes, and meets the defoaming requirements of high-viscosity systems (such as UV inks).
Broad System Compatibility:
Compatible with solvent-based acrylic resins, alkyd resins, epoxy resins, and UV-curable polyurethane systems, without causing haze in colored paints or clouding in clear coats;
Especially recommended for room-temperature curing unsaturated polyester resins (such as artificial stone coatings) and epoxy resins (such as floor paints), and works stably during normal-temperature curing.
Process Adaptability:
Suitable for various construction processes such as spraying, brushing, and rolling, optimizes the leveling performance of high-solid-content coatings, and reduces the risk of sagging during thick coating.
3. Application Fields
Solvent-based and Solvent-free Coatings:
Industrial Coatings: Original automotive paints, metal anti-corrosion paints (such as ship paints), improve the appearance flatness and adhesion of coatings;
Wood Coatings: Solvent-based PU paints, UV-curable wood clear coats, improve the uniformity of coatings on wood surfaces and reduce brush marks.
UV-curing Systems:
UV Printing Inks: Film gravure inks, label UV inks, solve the spreading problem of inks on PET/PP substrates and improve pattern clarity;
UV Varnishes: Varnishing treatment for plastic casings and paper printed products, enhance gloss and scratch resistance.
Room-temperature Curing Plastic Systems:
Unsaturated Polyester Products: Surface coatings for FRP and artificial marble, prevent the generation of bubbles and craters during curing;
Epoxy Resin Floors: Solvent-free epoxy self-leveling coatings, promote floor leveling and assist in defoaming to form a flat and wear-resistant coating.
4. Usage Guide
Recommended Dosage:
0.1 - 1.0% based on the total formula. It is recommended to use 0.3 - 0.8% for solvent-based coatings and 0.5 - 1.0% for UV systems. The optimal dosage needs to be determined through gradient tests (such as 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.8%) to avoid foaming caused by excessive addition.
Adding Method:
Solvent-based systems: Can be added directly during the grinding or paint mixing stage, and stirred for 15 - 20 minutes until uniformly dispersed;
UV systems: Add before photocuring and mix thoroughly with prepolymers, avoiding high-shear stirring to prevent additive failure.
Compatibility Tips:
Compatible with polar solvents (such as butyl acetate, xylene), avoid mixing with strongly polar alcohol solvents (such as methanol) or non-polar alkane solvents to prevent system demulsification.
5. Storage and Safety
Storage Conditions:
Store in a sealed manner in a cool and dry place at 5 - 35°C, with a shelf life of 12 months; if the viscosity increases at low temperatures, it can be used normally after heating to 25°C and stirring.
Environmental Characteristics:
Compliant with EU REACH regulations, the VOC content is controllable, and it is suitable for industrial coatings and printing inks with relatively high environmental protection requirements.
